Senior Government Relations Adviser

Reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations, this role will be responsible for developing the Government Relations strategy for Genworth Financial’s Mortgage Insurance (MI) and Lifestyle Protection Insurance (LPI) within Iberia and Italy.

Responsibilities

– Working with the Government Relations team to devise and deliver a government relations programme that protects and promotes Genworth Financial’s government relations and commercial objectives
– Working with Country Managers and Regional Legal Counsel to monitor regulatory and political developments and support the business in responding to them, including spotting and managing risks and opportunities for the business in the political, regulatory and legislative agenda
– Position Genworth as thought leader and developing relations with relevant Government Department’s and any other official stakeholders with a view to influence policy at an early stage
– Implementing contact programmes with appropriate politicians, regulators and other key stakeholders, with a view to creating a wide network of cross-party supporters in each national market
– Drafting consultation responses, presentations, briefing papers and other communications material
– Identifying opportunities, negotiating joint agreements and managing the release of thought leadership projects
– Working with our internal key stakeholders to establish and maintain contacts with trade organisations, consumer groups, industry working groups and government bodies
– Preparing and delivering presentations and speeches to promote the position of the business to key industry influencers
– Managing relationships with external agencies and consultants as appropriate
– Supporting the Vice President of Government Relations in her management function and as appropriate

Experience & Qualifications

– Strong analytical and communication background
– Ability to liaise with senior officials on all matters relating to the regulation of our businesses
– Familiar with Italian and Iberian (Portugal/Spanish), political and regulatory environment
– Familiar with insurance and financial services sector
– Experienced in regulatory/ government affairs for a politician, national/European trade association, large corporation, housing organisation, supervisory authority, policy unit, political organisation or government relations consultancy
– Familiar with national parliamentary systems and political environments in Iberia, Italy and preferably also France
– Demonstrable record of leading political campaigns with successful conclusions
– Demonstrable record of leading the development of position statements and policy papers
– Experience in the preparation of presentations and the drafting of written material on complex issues
– Excellent oral and written English and fluency in Italian (Spanish/Portuguese/French advantageous)
– Familiar with mortgage lending sector
– Understanding of financial services regulation
– Financially/numerically literate
– Ideally educated to degree level in economics, law, political science, or a related subject
